An automat that collects anonymous stories about sexual experiences and replays them in order to share start healthy conversations about sex, and better our sexual wellbeing
Our culture and media is hyper-sexualised in an unrealistic way, whereas talking about sex is often stigmatised and the topic is poorly covered in school.
As a result, there are many expectations, pressures, and misconceptions, making it difficult to create a space to explore and talk about sex without judgement.
Koospraten is an automat that collects anonymous stories about sexual experiences and replays them in order to share valuable lessons, start healthy conversations around sex, and better our sexual wellbeing.
Koospraten was selected to be exhibited at Dutch Design Week 2022, shortlisted in the ARTSTHREAD Global Design Undergraduate Show and commended at the IDI Graduate Awards.
Koospraten will travel to different colleges, bars and festivals and the stories will be shared on an online platform in order to start conversations about sex in everyday places.
As a socially engaged, research driven designer, I aim to not only create solutions but also to produce discussions, reflections and behavioural change.
Koospraten is about giving a platform to real, diverse stories, breaking down shame and starting important conversations in everyday places.
The automat plays an audio version of the story, increasing engagement with the piece and building empathy for the storytellers
It also prints out a written version of the story which acts as a takeaway to be discussed among friends and leads users to the koospraten website to listen to more stories together or in their own time

The piece was very much co-designed with young people - from exploring what the piece might look like, where it might be and what it might do to how to navigate triggering topics - making it a piece for them by them
This was an invaluable part of my process and many important conversations were had and started along the way
It was also important for me to collaborate with sexual health educators and experts to ensure the piece was research driven and trauma informed
