A choose your own adventure narrative that imagines potential futures of emerging technologies and issues such as Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change, ultimately asking who gets to make the decisions that will affect human and non-human life for generations to come
Human advancement and technological development came at an ecological cost and rendered the earth uninhabitable for humanity
In order to survive, humans organised a mass migration to another habitable planet with a promising future
Those who resisted leaving came to an agreement with the AI left in charge to rewild the Earth
They were allowed to stay behind, yet had to leave their homes and uninhabitable lands to build a new life inside a designated, geo-engineered human space, the Quolocom
On the Quolocom’s 50th anniversary Ona, struggling with the death of her parents and frustrated about living a life determined by the decisions of her predecessors, discovers evidence about something just beyond its borders
Will Ona ever see life outside the Quolocom and reconnect with the family she has lost? You decide
This project was the outcome of a Worldbuilding semester at the Design Investigations department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
After establishing the premise of our world in the Collaborating with AI workshop supported by Google's AMI grant we spent a lot of time developing the ecological, poticial and social context of our world
We also developed many 2D and 3D assets to add a level of depth to the world and its inhabitants
We then developed a storyline which showed intergenerational tensions to highlight the issues with and unintended consequences of decision making when it comes to widescale issues
The choose your own adventure narrative as a medium also highlights this by engaging the viewer actively in a decision making process
The film was built and animated using Unreal Engine 4.26
